Richard and Hang’s modern Chinese Wedding included several outfit changes, multiple locations and lots of love, happiness and laughter! The day started with a traditional tea ceremony that took place at the groom’s parents house, which is a longstanding custom created to show respect for the family. During the tea ceremony, the parents sit on chairs while the wedding couple kneels and serves them tea. Parents are served first, followed by grandparents, then uncles and aunts, and finally elder siblings. After the tea is finished, gifts are bestowed upon the wedding couple as a gesture of appreciation. This often includes the “red envelope” which is usually filled with money, and families also present gold jewelry as gifts, which the wedding couple wears right away.

After the tea ceremony we headed to University of San Diego for some amazing photos around the grounds of this beautiful private college. After that, it was time for the wedding reception which took place at Jasmine, San Diego’s most popular, largest Chinese event venue. Guests were treated to traditional 10-course Chinese banquet and several singing and dance performances. Congratulations Richard and Hang, it really was an honor to be your photographer! xo
