On Pui and Geoff’s wedding day, they had not one but two ceremonies! The first of which was a traditional tea ceremony, where the groom and his family go to the bride’s parents house to ask for her hand in marriage. When they receive permission, the couple then bows to the parents, thanks them for raising and protecting them and then serves tea to each guest, as family members and friends shower the couple with gold jewelry and red lucky money envelopes. This was a really beautiful custom to witness, and I loved how they burned candles and incense to ask for their ancestors to bless them. After the tea ceremony, it was time for the western wedding, which took place at a park overlooking downtown San Diego. It had been lightly raining all morning, but just as the ceremony was about to begin, the skies cleared and the sun came out! Afterwards, we all headed to La Jolla to do photos at the beach before the reception at Jasmine Restaurant, which included 400 guests and an elaborate ten course Chinese banquet. Such a sweet couple, and so in love!
